Why Spray Foam Insulation
Spray Foam Insulation has been part of building construction in the Edmonton region for many years. But Polyurethane Foam had its beginnings in the 1930’s when it was developed by Otto Bayer. Since that time, Polyurethanes are in products that we use day to day. Spray Foam Insulation stands as the most efficient insulation system for your home or building and Furis Insulation is your Edmonton based Spray Foam Insulation Contractor.
Benefits of Spray Foam Insulation

When people talk about how well their home or building is insulated, they often will use the terms R-Value or RSI. But a true measurement efficiency comes from how airtight the building is and this does not get accounted for under R-Value. Closed Cell Polyurethane Spray Foam is an approved air barrier that seals the building air tight and keeps the heat in and the cold out.
There are two main types of spray foam insulation that are used in buildings in Canada and detailed in the building code. Each of these foams have a different role to play in the efficiency of your project.
Closed Cell Spray Foam
Closed Cell Spray Foam Insulation is the predominant insulation of choice and is used anywhere that traditional insulation is used. Many builders and renovators insist on 2lb closed cell spray foam being used in joist ends and cantilevers or floors over unheated spaces. Closed Cell Spray Foam is a very dense product that can actually support the shear strength off a wall system by up to 300%. This foam meets vapour barrier requirements under building code and has one of the highest r-values.
Open Cell Spray Foam
Open Cell Spray Foam is a high expanding foam and is able to fill large voids or very tight areas. Open Cell Spray foam is sometimes used to insulate difficult areas where closed cell cannot be used. This foam is not a vapour barrier and will require a 6mil poly be installed over it. Open Cell Foam is often referred to as half lb foam and the rvalue is roughly half of it’s closed cell counterpart.
Our Process
Everything starts with a free estimate. One of our qualified team can do a take off of building plans or can schedule a site visit to look at your insulation project. After all your questions are answered and we have taken m easurements, a quote will be provided.
Spray Foam Installer Certified
Once the quote is accepted, a CAN/ULS s705.2 certified installer will arrive to spray your project. In Canada, all spray foam installers must be certified under the building code and tested by a third party. Furis Insulation will never send an installer who has not had this training and testing.

Spray Foam FAQs
Can spray foam insulation be done in my attic?
Yes. Many older homes upgrade to spray foam in their attics to fix vapour barrier issues and save on heating costs. The process involves removal of the old insulation before spray foam.
How long does spray foam insulation last?
Spray Foam Insulation doesn’t ever sag or gap. In an attic it doesn’t settle or become wind washed. The foam will outlast the building structure.
Do I have to leave my house overnight if I have spray foam done?
Yes. People and pets must be out of the house during install and for 24 hours according to code.
